Intro:

Hi, I teach German linguistics at JNU, New Delhi. I am a sociolinguist by training; my research focuses on language policy.

My first book called Reconceptualising Power in Language Policy was published in August 2022. Based on an analysis of LP legislation in six case studies (Wales, Luxembourg, the EU, India, Manipur and Tamil Nadu), it challenges the dominant notion of macro-level power in LP research. You can read a review here

My research can be accessed through my academia page:

At Cambridge, I established a group named Cambridge Sociolinguistics Circle to promote sociolinguistics here. I am also the Communications Secretary of BAAL Language Policy SIG. For details of its activities and events, click here:

In 2019, I established a minor award in the memory of my mother. The purpose is to cover printing costs of PhD students, as the final year of PhD is largely unfunded. Please get in touch if you want to make donations for Malati Sharma Memorial Award.
